ACUPUNCTURE Education
While a student at Boston University, I completed a study abroad program in Nepal where became interested in Eastern Medicine. I returned from Nepal and spent two years studying under Dr. Vasant Lad at The Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico and in 2007 completed my Master’s degree at Southwest Acupuncture College in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
While completing my Masters, I chose to undertake mentorship with Dr. Jeffrey Meyer in Kototama Inochi Medicine, a unique form of diagnosis and treatment originated by Masahilo Nakazono Sensei. This form of medicine is passed directly from student to teacher and requires years of relationship with a teacher, study, inquiry and practice. I spent over 800 direct clinical hours studying alongside Dr. Meyer and have continued as a dedicated student of my teacher and Kototama Inochi Medicine for over 18 years.
Experience
After several years as the Program Coordinator of Acupuncturists Without Borders, I began my private practice in Maine in 2009. Although I see patients for a wide range of concerns, over the past decade I have gained special expertise in the areas of perinatal health, reproductive health and mental health care. I began attending births as an acupuncturist in 2011. Since that time I have attended over 100 births in both homes and hospitals and enjoy working with families through all stages of pregnancy and into the big, messy adventure of parenthood.
In January 2015 I opened 54 Herrick Wellness Collective, a four room interdisciplinary complementary healthcare office on Mt. Desert Island, Maine. I am deeply committed to providing supportive, unbiased, evidence-based and high quality care to my community.
Personal
I grew up in Gorham, Maine and lived in Boston, New Mexico and Hawai'i before returning to my home state in 2008. I am an enthusiastic writer, farmhouse-renovator, writer, knitter and self-professed “birth-nerd”. I currently reside on Mt. Desert Island with my artist husband and two busy teenage sons.
